Governing Council

* The Council shall be the Governing Body of the institute. It shall have, the power conferred on it by these Rules read with the Memorandum and all property belonging to the Institute shall be vested in the Council. The Council shall be responsible for the administration of the Institute.

* The Council shall comprise of the following ex-officio members consisting of 14 members and shall be selected through Annual General Meeting. The office bearers of Governing Body shall comprise of President, Member-Secretary and other members.

       a) The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta (Ex-officio)

       b) Two standing nominees of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta not below the rank of professor of the university.

       c) The Jute Commissioner (Ex-officio)

       d) Secretary, Jute Manufacturing Development Council, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India (Ex-officio)

       e) Two more standing nominees from the jute Manufactures Development Council, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India (Ex-officio)

       f) Two Chairman of Indian Jute Mills Association (Ex-officio)

       g) Two more standing nominees of Indian Jute mills' Association

       h) One nominee of the All Indian Council of Technical Education not below the Rank of Regional Director.

       i) Director of Technical Education, Govt. of W.B., or representative not below the rank of Dy. Director.

       j) One nominee of the teachers of the IJT.

       k) The Principal, IJT (Ex-officio)

       l) The Governing Council may co-opt upto a maximum of three members from amongst those who are interested in promoting the object of the Institute and whose association will be beneficial to the Institute for such period or periods as the Governing council of the Institute may decide in each case.

       m) The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta shall be President of the Institute and the Principal of the Institute shall be the Secretary. If the VC is unable to attend a particular meeting, the members present shall elect a member to preside over the meeting of the particular day.
       n) Ex-officio members of the Governing Council shall be members by reason of their positions. Every ex-officio members shall cease to be a member when he ceases to hold such office and thereafter the person succeeding him to such office shall be an ex-officio member of the Governing Council.

       o) The term of Office for the Governing Council would be three years with provision for renewal at the end of the term.

Associate Member

* "Associate Member" Shall be form Jute/Textile Mills, Trade and industries allied with or accessory to the Jute Mills which pay contribution as provided for herein. Provided however, the Governing Council may from time to time by a resolution include any other class of members as may be considered necessary in the interests of the Institute. Such members shall not have any right to vote.
* Application for membership shall be made in writing and forwarded to the council.
* The Council may reject any application for membership without assigning any reason therefor.
* Every Associate Member shall pay prior to admission such membership fee as may be determined by the Governing Council from time to time.
* After admission to Associate Membership every member shall comply with these rules and pay such membership fees as may be prescribed by the Governing Council. At present the membership is Rs.5,000/per year & admission fee is Rs.10,000/-
