Rules and Guidelines
for Admission to 4-year B. Tech.
in Jute & Fibre Technology
a)
Qualification : Applicants should be Indian nationals, and have
passed/appeared/or will appear on the year of admission at the 10+2 Higher
Secondary Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or
equivalent examination of a recognised University or of a Board with
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and any other fifth subject or any
other qualification recognized by the University of Calcutta.
b)
Age : Candidates must not be over 21 years of age on the lst of
August of the year of admission (relaxations upto Three years for Scheduled
Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates).
c)
Eligibility : Candidates shall be required to appear in a written test
conducted by the West Bengal Board of Examination for Admission to
Engineering, Medical and Technological Degree Colleges in Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics (each paper of 3 hours duration) Candidate who reach
qualifying standard at the written test will be offered admission by the
Central Selection Committee in order of merit, subject to medical fitness.
d)
Application : Application for admission should be made in the prescribed
form of the Institute available during counseling by Central Selection
Committee. No application will be accepted by the Institute unless it bears
the JEE ENROLMENT and REGISTRATION NUMBER allotted by the Central Selection
Committee for Admission to Engineering and Technological Degree Colleges of
West Bengal. Applicants are requested to look in to newspaper notification
issued by Joint Entrance Board, Govt. of W.B. forms are distributed in the
month of December (tentatively) an qualifying examination are held in the
month of April.
e)
Admission : The Selected candidates will have to pay their fees on the
dates mentioned in the admission letter. A total sum of about
Rs. 10,500/- towards the fees for the first year has to be paid
at the time of admission. The Governing Council of the Institute
may change the fees from time to time, Students are required
to provide themselves with necessary instruments for engineering
drawing, books, yarns, cloths, etc. required in their practical
classes and project work.

4. About the M. Tech. Course in Textile Technology (Technical Textiles) :This M Tech Course is specially designed to cover the advances in Textile Technology in general and the Technical Textiles in particular. The course contains eleven(11) theoretical papers of each 100 marks namely Advanced Engg, Math. & Statistics, Industrial Polymers & High Performance Fibers, Advances in Spinning & Technical Yarns, Advances in Weaving & Technical fabrics, Non-wovens ,Composites, Knitting , Textile Testing , Textile Structures and Analysis, Technical Textiles-I and II ( Packaging textiles, Geotextiles, Agro textiles, Sports textiles, Home textiles, Automotive textiles, Build-textiles, Protective textiles and Medical textiles etc.) , Production and Entreprenuership Management & Costing, Computer Applications, Clothing Science and Advances in Chemical Processing etc. along with six practical papers on Manufacture of technical yarns , technical fabrics and Fibre reinforced Composites etc. besides their physical and chemical analysis and testing as well as minor and major project work on specialized areas of technical textiles.
5. Eligibility for Admission:A candidate who has passed the B. Tech. examination in Jute and Fibre Technology or Fibre Technology (Jute) or Fibre Technology or B. Sc.Tech./ B. Tech. examination in Textile Technology of the University of Calcutta or Bachelor Degree in Textile Engineering/Textile Technology/Textile Chemistry of other recognized University or an equivalent examination recognized by the University of Calcutta will be eligible for admission to the Master of Technology (M. Tech.) course in Textile Technology (Technical Textiles).
6. About the Faculty : This Institute has well qualified and experienced Faculty and technical staff to cater the need of both theoretical and practical teaching in undergraduate and post graduate courses of this Institute under the University of Calcutta. Leading Scientists, academicians and experienced technologists of various reputed organizations are also invited to deliver lectures as Visiting Faculty.
7. About Library & Laboratory Infrastructure : This Institute has a well equipped library having more than 11,000 books and about 1200 back-volume journals with adequate library infrastructure facility for undergraduate and post graduate students. IJT currently procures 22 national journals and 11foreign journals each year.
8. Hostel Facility : No hostel facility is available at present. Guest house/Mess accommodations are available within 2-5 Km from the Institute at reasonable cost, however, the charges may vary from place to place.
9. Course Fees : Rs. 9,500/- per semester for GATE and NON-GATE students and Rs 12,500/-for sponsored students only.
10. Scholarship: No Scholarship is available from the Institute at present. However , GATE qualified candidates may obtain Scholarship directly from AICTE applying through proper channel only after the admission.
11. Admission Procedure : GATE qualified students will be preferred. Admission for all category of students will be made through an admission test and interview conducted by the Institute on 24.07.2007at 11.00 A M..

Rules and Guidelines
for Admission to
Junior Level Supervisor's Certificate Course |

Courses
: Junior Level Supervisor's Course :
The short courses for the Junior Level Supervisors on (1) Spinning
and Spinning Preparatory and (2) Weaving and Weaving Preparatory
are due to commence from December 10, 2004 for 3 months. Each
candidate will be admitted to one course only i.e. either Spinning
or Weaving. The Spinning Course will cover Batching, Emulsion,
Softening, Carding, Drawing and Spinning. The Weaving Course
will cover Warp and Weft Winding, Size Preparation, Beaming,
Weaving, and Finishing. Both these courses will cover physical
and chemical testing of jute fibres, yarn and also statistical
quality control techniques.
Jute Mill Personal, who have completed at least 2 years in a
Jute Mill and have passed the School Final Examination, will
be eligible for admission to the Courses. Jute Mills are requested
to sponsor their candidates, who are to appear a Written
Test and an Interview in November this year. The time and date will be announced later.
The Application Forms should be forwarded through Chief Executive
or General Manager of the Jute Mill with an undertaking that
the Jute Mill will be providing jobs to the applicant after
completion of the course. No application will be entertained
without the valid sponsorship from the Jute Mills/Organizations.
Duration
The duration of the Course will be 3(three) months (the date will be announced later). These will be full-time
courses (From 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.).
Fees
A
consolidated fee of Rs. 4,000/- per student for each
course should be payable by way of Demand Draft in favor of
“Institute of Jute Technology”.
Both
these courses will be covering physical and chemical testing of jute
fibers, yarn and fabrics and also statistical quality control techniques.
Hostel
There is no provision for Hostel accommodation and the
students will have to make their own arrangement for boarding
and lodging. But the Foreign Nationals will be accommodate in a nearby Guest House and the students have to bear their boarding and lodging expenses. The Canteen service of the Institute will, however,
be available for mid-day snacks and tea.
Last
Date
Completed Application Forms along with attested Mark sheets,
Certificates, etc. should reach the Office of the Institute.
The date and time will be announced later.
Application Forms will be available in the Account Department
of the Institute against the sponsorship letter from
the Mills, between 11:00 A.M. and 1:15

| ADMISSION
OF FOREGIN STUDENTS

All India Council for Technical Education vide its approval No. F. No.750-80-106(E) / ET / 95 Dated 25.08.2004 has sanctioned 15% of intake capacity (30) for admitting foreign nationals in B. Tech. Degree Course. In accordance with this order the Institute will admit 5 foreign nationals. Applications are invited from foreign students for admission to AICTE approved 4-year B.Tech in Jute and Fibre Technology under the University of Calcutta . Candidates who passed with at least 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class XII Examination as prevailed for the Indian Nationals. Apart from the B.Tech Degree Course Institute is conducting 3 months Certificate Course for mill sponsored Junior Level Supervisors (JLS). Foreign National may apply for the same.
Selection of candidates will be done on merit basis. Medium of instruction is English. Tuition fees will be US$ 3000 per year for B.Tech course and US$ 150 for Certificate Course. As there is no hostel, students will be accommodated in a Guest House. Boarding and Lodging charges should be bourne by individual students.
Candidates has to apply in a plain paper mentioning the permanent address and address for communication will attested photocopies for proof of marks, Passport No. and Validity along with equivalent certificate from the Attach (Education) of High Commission of India in respective Country.
